Over the past two decades or so, the inimitable Nitin Sawhney has performed at some of London’s most iconic music venues. The Royal Albert Hall, the Southbank Centre, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, the Roundhouse… the Royal Albert Hall. And we’ve been there almost every time.
Tying all those concerts together is obviously the superbness of his live performance, but also the rather massive scale of space and audience. This year Nitin’s gone intimate. He first presented India & Me – the stories and music of his 28-year journey in the industry, the inspirations, the coincidences, the people – in Tara Arts‘ new, lovely theatre at the beginning of the year. Those tickets sold out in the blink of an eye but happily there’s a second chance to see a reprise in the even more sublime surroundings of the Globe’s candle-lit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Here’s a photo from William Dalrymple and Susheela Raman’s performance How Many Words? from last month.
Imagine, if you will, the likes of this, there.
Nitin Sawhney’s performance is part of the Shakespeare Globe’s Festival of Independence which runs until 21 September. Our round-up of the Festival is here.
